ABOUT THE ARTIST

Kate is a self-taught painter, known for her unique style. Her favorite medium is acrylic on wooden canvases, as they provide her with a sturdy surface that enhances her painting techniques.

“I have been painting my whole life, but first started to with intention in order to portray what I see in music. I have synesthesia in many forms, one of which is seeing colors when listening to music. Painting abstract was my first way of bridging what I could see into what others could see as well.

My greatest love has always been light. I love studying how light interacts with the objects that it illuminates. My love for painting portraits was born from wanting to capture the light of different living beings. Each person and animal is an embodiment of the world within themselves. To paint their light is to paint the external world interacting with their own and to showcase their presence in this life. When I am painting a portrait, I am painting the light in it.

My current original pieces I am making are a way to marry the two approaches. A way to bend what is abstract emotion with recognizable features in order to convey a deeper message. In that, I am combining what seen with what is felt. That is my passion that I am following."
